That's the message of the newest papal encyclical, the first from Benedict XVI.

Here's a good article summarizing the encyclical and getting reactions to it from various theologians. And here's the full text, in case you wanted to check it out for yourself.

I'd say it's a rather good sign that B the XVI kicked off his writings with this message.
